Rear View Mirror/Visors
Street Prepared says you can remove these (15.2.Q). Keith Brown seems to think that it's totally fine.
Top
Need to find a hardtop. Check if John wants to sell me my busted old one. We just need it to work, not be pretty.
Need to completely tear out the soft top and see if it's sellable.
We're apparently allowed to remove the soft top because of the Club Sport edition. This was clarified in the March 2003 Fastrack:
"...may update to the hardtop/soft top specifications of the Club Sport package, which permit the car to compete with the hardtop on, and/or with the soft top on, or with both removed."
Sound Deadening/Insulation
How much of this sort of thing are we allowed to remove? Need to scrutinize rules...
Blower Pipe
Need to pick up the non-A/C blower pipe from Jim and then install it. The A/C box it's replacing is 6.7 lbs.
A/C
Need to do some research to make sure there aren't any more computers anywhere in the car for the A/C system to remove. I assume the heater controls aren't worth swapping out to a non-A/C unit (no weight savings), but might want to verify that in case there's a bunch of extra circuitry in there to control the A/C.
Radio/Airbag
Need to remove the speakers from the door panels.
Check for and remove the airbag battery from under the dash. Remove the sensors from both fenders and the front of the car, and as much wiring as possible.
Solo Rules
16.1.O. Radio/Stereo and airbag equipment and/or its component parts, including wiring, control modules, antennas, amplifiers, speakers and their enclosures, etc. may be removed provided the part added, removed, or replaced serves no other purpose. Any visible holes that result from the removal of equipment must be covered with a cover of unrestricted material. Covers may be used to mount gauges, switches, etc.
Seats/Belts
Need to weigh the current seat in the KLiata to see if it's worth using.
Need to find a nice comfy light main seat, and then a very light and uncomfortable passenger seat.
Are belts worth doing? Are they lighter than the stock belts after you remove all the crap in the pillar and still have to put in a harness bar? The KLiata has a harness bar we could gank if necessary.
Solo Rules
Seat rules come from SP:
15.1.F. The driver and front passenger seats may be replaced, with the following restrictions: Seats must be securely mounted per 3.3.3.B.2. The seating surface must be fully upholstered. Any replacement seat must be a full back, bucket-type automobile seat incorporating a functional headrest. Kart seats, low-back dune buggy seats, and other similar types of seat are expressly prohibited. Cars may have no fewer than the standard number of seats. The seat tracks are considered part of the seat and may be substituted. Alternate seat tracks may serve no other purpose. The standard seat belts may be removed to facilitate the installation of alternate restraints complying with safety requirements. An alternate seat which replaces an airbag-equipped seat is not required to have an airbag.
Belt and Harness Bar rules come from Stock, surprisingly:
13.2.J. Driver restraints as outlined in Section 3.3.1 are allowed. Seats may not be cut to allow for the installation of alternate seat belts or harnesses. Passive restraint systems may not be removed. A horizontal “harness bar” may be used as part of the installation hardware for allowed driver restraints provided it has no more than two attachment points to the chassis and is bolted at those locations. A ‘C’-type harness bar may also be used. It may have four bolted attachment points to the chassis (two primary, and two supporting connections to resist rotation). Truss-type harness bars are not allowed.
Gauges
Bought this and a 2 1/16" hole saw to drill gauge holes in it.
As for gauges:
- 30psi vacuum/boost -- should get a gauge for that. Can steal the one from the KLiata after we get the new intake manifold working as that won't be supercharged anymore.
- Water temp -- will be logged/displayed on the DAQ. analog too?
- Oil temp -- will be logged/displayed on the DAQ. analog too?
- Oil press -- will be logged/displayed on the DAQ. analog too?
AIM units can talk to the MS3, and log them with analog inputs to use as gauges. More about this in Electronics#Instrument_Panel.
Steering Wheel
Car comes with some quick remove wheel. No idea what it is yet or if there's weight savings going to some other wheel... Steering wheel is basically unrestricted. Not required to keep functional horn button.
Windows
Currently has power windows. Need to find a set of manual windows to swap in. Hannah makes a good point that this may require also changing the inside door panel to get a hole for the levers. This in theory saves 4 lbs.
