Need to find a hardtop. Check if John wants to sell me my busted old one. We just need it to work, not be pretty.
Need to completely tear out the soft top and see if it's sellable.
We're apparently allowed to remove the soft top because of the Club Sport edition. This was clarified in the March 2003 Fastrack:
"...may update to the hardtop/soft top specifications of the Club Sport package, which permit the car to compete with the hardtop on, and/or with the soft top on, or with both removed."
Sound Deadening
How much of this sort of thing are we allowed to remove? Need to scrutinize rules...
Blower Box
Need to find a non-A/C box and swap it into the dash.
Radio
Need to remove the radio, speakers, and any wiring therein. Everything can be removed per 16.1.O.
A/C
Check for any other remnants of the A/C system that need removing.
Airbag
Check for and remove the airbag battery from under the dash. Remove the sensors from both fenders and the front of the car, and as much wiring as possible.
Solo Rules
16.1.O. Radio/Stereo and airbag equipment and/or its component parts, including wiring, control modules, antennas, amplifiers, speakers and their enclosures, etc. may be removed provided the part added, removed, or replaced serves no other purpose. Any visible holes that result from the removal of equipment must be covered with a cover of unrestricted material. Covers may be used to mount gauges, switches, etc.
Belts
Are belts worth doing? Are they lighter than the stock belts?
Legality of harness bar? I remember there being some language about it. Something about definitely not serving any structural purpose.
Seats
Need to find a nice comfy light main seat, and then a very light and uncomfortable passenger seat.
Solo Rules
Seat rules come from SP:
15.1.F. The driver and front passenger seats may be replaced, with the following restrictions: Seats must be securely mounted per 3.3.3.B.2. The seating surface must be fully upholstered. Any replacement seat must be a full back, bucket-type automobile seat incorporating a functional headrest. Kart seats, low-back dune buggy seats, and other similar types of seat are expressly prohibited. Cars may have no fewer than the standard number of seats. The seat tracks are considered part of the seat and may be substituted. Alternate seat tracks may serve no other purpose. The standard seat belts may be removed to facilitate the installation of alternate restraints complying with safety requirements. An alternate seat which replaces an airbag-equipped seat is not required to have an airbag.
Gauges
Should probably pick up the same panel I used on the KLiata, and then put a 30psi vacuum/boost gauge, an oil pressure gauge, and a water temp gauge in it.
Steering Wheel
Car comes with some quick remove wheel. No idea what it is yet or if there's weight savings going to some other wheel... Need to see if the horn still works. Not required to keep functional horn button.
Windows
Currently has power windows. Need to find a set of manual windows to swap in. Hannah makes a good point that this may require also changing the inside door panel to get a hole for the levers. This in theory saves 4 lbs.
